The northeast is known for many things—one of them being a place of good times both indoors and out. If good times for you include sipping on some choice beers, then Boston has also got you covered. Breweries like Samuel Adams, Harpoon, Blue Hills, and Berkshire are all located here and anxiously awaiting your arrival. So if you’re in the greater Boston area and in the mood to visit some breweries, here are your best bets.
Samuel Adams is, without a doubt, the biggest name brewery in the area. Located at 30 Germania Street, this Boston icon has some of the best tours around. The one-hour tour departs every 45 minutes and requests just a $2 donation. During the tour you can smell hops, barely, and sample some of Samuel Adams beer—both traditional and experimental ales. The tours run Monday–Thursday 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Fridays 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Saturdays 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Harpoon Brewery offers a $5 brewery tour which includes tasting glass, a beer tasting, and a donation to local charities. Weekend tours here often sell-out quickly, so a wise beer drinker would arrive early or book in advance.
Blue Hills Brewery has been rapidly growing in popularity recently thanks to some select microbrews they’ve been putting forward. Head down to check them out at 1020 Turnpike Street #3B, in Canton.
Berkshire Brewing Company is located a ways outside of town (12 Rail Road Street, South Deerfield), but locals always claim the trip is well worth it. The brewery offers a weekly tour on Saturdays at 1:00 p.m., which is free, followed by a tastings of some of the brewery’s best beers.
